The cool, lakeside climate of Tagaytay City in the Philippines makes it an ideal getaway spot for both locals and tourists looking to escape the smothering heat and crowds in Manila. The hilly city overlooks Taal Lake, famous for the volcano island that sits in the middle of it. Tagaytay City is about an hour south of Manila and easily accessible by coach bus.
Step 1
Make your way to the Cubao Bus Terminal in the Quezon City area of Metro Manila.
Step 2
Determine which bus service to take to Tagaytay. You can choose from several bus lines that travel to Tagaytay, such as Erjohn & Almark (no website; 3082 Jose Abad Santos Street, Cavite; 046-872-1154) and San Augustin (no website; 8 Monique Street, Las Pinas City; 632-872-8497). Both bus signs should have 'Nagabus-Tagaytay' on a sign in the front window. Bus run to Tagaytay roughly every 30 minutes, but schedules are subject to change due to weather and buses often depart early if they fill up. Try to avoid early morning and late afternoon rush hours to ensure you are able to get a seat on a bus.
Step 3
Pay the bus driver in pesos, the Philippines currency, when you board the bus. As of publication, fare ranges roughly between P114 and P120, which is about $2 to $3. Check with the bus service ahead of time to get the most up-to-date information.

Tagaytay in Cavite is a popular tourist attraction to those who are looking for a quick getaway near Manila. It’s cool weather makes it a perfect place to relax and chill while enjoying your friends and family’s company.
When I transferred to Cavite 5 years ago, I’ve found myself relatively closer and nearer to Tagaytay. Now, from General Trias, I can just take a quick bus ride and I’ll be in Tagaytay in less than an hour. During the time when I still have a car, I would drive from GenTri passing through the Amadeo road going to Tagaytay. It was just quick.
Just recently when I wanted to write alone and I needed some work to be done, Tagaytay has become my refuge. With more options for affordable accommodation, I always go to Tagaytay to be alone and write.
Whenever I inform my friends about my growing love for Tagaytay, they would always ask me what’s the best way now to go to Tagaytay by bus or commute. I know most of them have been to Tagaytay via their own cars, but in case they needed to commute, they’ve found themselves clueless, asking how?
Well this post is for you because I will be enumerating here the most updated and fastest way to go to Tagaytay from Manila.
Manila to Tagaytay via PITX
PITX or Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange is slowly turning into a central transportation hub for passengers going to Cavite and southern area. This is the first landport in the Philippines offering a more convenient way of commuting going to Batangas and Cavite.
Here at PITX, there are buses going to Tagaytay and Nasugbu (Batangas). You can either choose any of these destinations as Nasugbu bound buses will pass through Tagaytay.
Honestly, at first I didn’t like the idea of PITX in the beginning as this created chaos and inconvenience to workers who commute every day between Cavite and Manila, and that included me. PITX killed the vans in MOA and other areas, and yet the government is not willing to give any franchise for these vans. The commuters are left there suffering with no option.
But now that I’ve already resigned from my job, and experience PITX during non-rush hours, I can say that it is indeed convenient and efficient. Whenever, I have trips I usually just board a bus going to PITX and will conveniently board a bus going to Cavite. I’ve done this many times.
So, if you are going to Tagaytay, PITX is a convenient landport for you.
How to go to PITX?
From EDSA, they are buses that go directly to PITX, Make sure that the sign board has PITX on it. Buses will either go straight to PITX or via MOA.
Manila to Tagaytay by Bus at Buendia Terminal
Another easy way to go to Tagaytay is by going there via the DLTB bus terminal at LRT Buendia (LRT Gil Puyat Station).
Take the bus going to Nasugbu. If buses at PITX usually travel via the Emilia Aguinaldo Highway, these buses in Buendia will take the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), will exit in Carmona then will pass through Tagaytay. Bus fare is around Php 90.
Manila to Tagaytay by van
Van is another more convenient option going to Tagaytay. Please be advised that this can be a little bit expensive than the bus. Currently, here are the places where there are vans going to Tagaytay.
- StarMall Mandaluyong – The popular mall in front of SM Megamall. There are vans going to Tagaygay there.
- Metropoint Mall – Edsa corner Taft Avenue
- McDonald’s at the Edsa MRT Station
- Alabang – Terminal is located near the Festival Mall.
Manila to Tagaytay via Private Car
The fastest way going to Tagaytay via private car is to take the SLEX or South Luzon Expressway then Exit at Sta Rosa. Drive straight to Tagaytay City.
Another option which is a more congested on or traffic is via the Emilio Aguinaldo Highway. But more are opting to go via SLEX Sta. Rosa.
